Restarted With A Mouse: A Pop Culture Timeline

Shrek is Love, Shrek is Air Strike
Why wasn’t there a Best Animated Feature winner for 1984?
Kayfabe: The Academy didn't do one that year due to a lack of submissions
IRL: I couldn't find enough nominees for that year. 😥
Since we're in the 2000s now, I wonder how Chicken Little will fare
Well the recently founded Disney Digital Division (or 3D for short) are currently hard at work on A Few Good Ghosts, so make of that as you will.

While UAS had already made a critically animated features with films like The Prince of Egypt, they were still in search of a true major financial hit, especially after the underwhelming performance of El Dorado. 2001 would see their financial fortunes change with the release of the fantasy comedy Shrek. It would go on to become the division's most successful film yet and spawn several other fairy tale parodies trying to repeat the success of the feature.

He's not lying. Look at this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animated_feature_films_of_1984

It was a loaded year for Japan, yeah... But most of the films they launched that year were... Ok at best.
Yeah, there are the clear exception of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. But what else would you nominate that year? Doraemon: Nobita's Great Adventure into the Underworld?

Okay, you could have done like 2021 Goya Awards and have an entire category for just one film... But it would have been weird.

Originally being conceived in back in the mid 90's, Monsters, Inc would soon turn out to be one of the biggest projects in Pixar's history. The company would end up having to use over 3500 processers and create a fur simulation program in order to accommodate the production. Their hard work would thankfully pay off, as it would once again being another critical and financial hit for the studio.

Pixar would celebrate finishing what they believed to be their toughest challenge yet. Little did they know, what the studio and director Pete Docter would have to face just a few months later.

I know that Atlantis: The Lost Empire is still a Disney animated feature, but is Recess: School's Out a Disney animated feature (ei Snow White, The Lion King, etc.) too or is it a film that gets released under a smaller Disney studio and is not part of the animated feature lineup?

It would have been pretty interesting to see this version of Shrek. As much as I love the film from OTL with Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, it would've been pretty interesting to see what Chris Farley and Janeane Garofalo would've been like.

I am glad that some of Farley's Shrek was made available a few years back.

I got a bunch of updates all coming very soon (going to start posting them on Saturday if my power doesn't go out again)

While Bone had been a highly praised comic since it was first published in the early 90's, it journey into being adapted was a one that had been through a lot of issues. Sony originally announced to had purchased the rights in 1994, however their deal with Marvel and the mounting disagreements between the studio and Jeff Smith lead to Warner Brothers picking up the feature in 1999.

It would finally be released in 2002 to much acclaim, with many critics praising it's depth and impressive animation. A TV series continuing the events of the books would premiere the following year on Cartoon Network, lasting until 2006.
