WI: 1999 Russian Apartment Bombings Exposed?

The 1999 apartment bombings were some of the most pivotal movements in the history of the Russian Federation, yet seem woefully underdiscussed. Aside from the hundreds of innocent lives lost, the bombings served as a catalyst for the Second Chechen War and all of the misery which followed- as well as propelling Putin from an unknown bureaucrat to President. Yet the truth of who was behind the attacks remains a mystery, at least to most in Russia.

But what if something changed? Perhaps the police in Ryazan refuse to release the captured FSB agents. Perhaps the media gets involved earlier and the FSB is caught off guard and fails to act decisively to squash the story. Either way, within just a few days after September 22nd millions of Russians begin to seriously consider the idea that the Russian government has been engineering the murder of hundreds of its own citizens. Protests begin to spring up in major cities as rumors swirl that the FSB is planning more attacks in their areas. The international press gets involved, and soon opposition members in the State Duma begin to openly demand investigations of the security agencies and the government to determine if they had any knowledge or involvement in the attacks.

So what happens?

The Russian government has engineered the murder of MILLIONS of its own citizens since the time of Stalin. There were no protests then. I don't see why there would be protests now.

"Jet fuel cannot melt steel beams".
Seriously, the theory about the FSB blowing up
apartment buildings should sit in a well-deserved row with conspiracy theories about 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. I really believe that this theory is popular among non-conspiracy masses purely because of the Litvinenko's poisoning and death (the most adequate of his statements was taken*) and Ryazan. And the events in Ryazan don't necessarily mean that Moscow and Volgodonsk were blown up by the FSB (conspiracy theorists conveniently omit this problem due to the lack of proof).

Also I really like how the conspiracy theorists completely ignore the fact that people are serving their life sentences in Russian prison at the moment. They were sentenced for the 1999 Blowings. IMHO, they're avoided for one simple reason. During one of the arrests, suspect threw a grenade at the Georgian police officers (luckily noone was killed).

*Guy claimed a lot. Like, for example, that Putin is a homosexual pedophile. Or that Ayman al-Zawahri (the second leader of al-Qaeda) was an FSB agent. Plus a few more claims that X event is the fault of the FSB.

Uhm, there is a simple problem.

Russia in the 90s had a serious political opposition. There were protests against First Chechen War (that was one of the reasons why Yeltsin desired to finish the war as soon as possible). Seriously, it was the Russian opposition who, for example, compared Samashki to Lidice.

And also do you seriously compare Totalitarian Regime to the Authoritarian Regime at worst?..
